OXBO ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS

STATUS: UNDER CONSTRUCTION FEB 2020 - est. completion 7/21

This project will add a signalized intersection at Highway 9 and Oxbo road.  The new intersection will improve multi-modal access across highway 9 by providing a new location for crossing.  Additionally the new connection across Oxbo Road at Pleastant Hill to Elm Street will improve access to the mill village historic area for bikes and pedestrians.  These two new connections and crossings will help enable new bicycle routes for both recreational and transportation users.  One impact in addition new vehicular traffic to the mill area will be possible increased traffic on Mimosa Blvd.  Bike Roswell continues to monitor the city's efforts to reduce speed limit on Mimosa Blvd to 25 MPH and will advocate for separate facilities on this important route.

MIMOSA BLVD SPEED LIMIT CHANGE

STATUS: PENDING APPEAL TO GDOT

In order to lower speed limits on a road cities in Georgia must get approval from GDOT the state transportation agency otherwise new speed limits will not be enforceable.  In 2019 Roswell applied to have Mimosa Blvd, currently a 30 MPH street changed to a 25 MPH speed limit putting it in line with other historic roads in Roswell such as Green Street, Canton Street and Oak Street.  The city was denied the change at the time, but RDOT was charged by council to appeal the process as well as explore what changes may be necessary to get the reduction approved.  Bike Roswell has reached out City of Roswell this January for a progress update.

BIG CREEK GREENWAY EXTENSION - CITY OF ALPHARETTA

STATUS: UNDER CONSTRUCTION FEB 2020 - est. completion 6/21

One of the most anticipated projects in the Roswell/Alpharetta area for the last 5+ years has been the extension of the Big Creek Greenway to connect with Forsyth county's greenway section.  This was finally approved and construction is scheduled to start by February 2020 and take 16 months to complete.  This extension will add 1.77 miles to the existing Roswell/Alpharetta Greenway and is anticipated to provide connection to Ronald Reagan Blvd's existing sidepath trail which will connect users to the new Halcyon development and the Forsyth Big Creek Greenway all along separated multi-use trail.

BIG CREEK GREENWAY EXTENSION - FORSYTH COUNTY

STATUS: UNDER CONSTRUCTION  - est. completion 2021

In addition to the above extension by Alpharetta, Forsyth County is also under construction on a 5.7 mile extension of their section of the Big Creek Greenway.  Together these will add nearly 8 miles of trail to the Greenway, but more importantly provide a continuous 20+ mile multi-use connection from Roswell's Big Creek Park to Forsyth County's Sawnee Mountain Preserve!  All that will be left will be Roswell's commitment to close the gap from the Big Creek Greenway to the Roswell Riverwalk Trail.
